Who is this program for?

This program is designed for athletes that want to train specifically for the demands of volleyball and improve the strength and skills needed to be a great volleyball athlete. BFV Bodyweight is for athletes who:

  • Don’t have access to a full weight room facility

  • Are younger (<14) or beginner athletes

  • Are older (>14) or advanced/experienced but need a bodyweight program for better foundational development, “switching it up”/backing off the weights, or have never done specific training for volleyball

  • Need a foundational program before advancing to the BFV Seasonal program

  • Want to learn the Spiking Sequence and train the mechanics to make it automatic in the air

  • Want to improve their vertical jump (spike approach jump and block jump)

  • Want to be quicker on the court

  • Want to be more explosive, technically proficient, more consistent and last longer on the court

BFV Bodyweight is a program designed to be done without any gym equipment, so it can be completed at home or outside (a ball, net and partner are recommended, but not necessary).

the problem with other training programs

A lot of programs may claim to be volleyball specific, but only train the muscles used. This is only part of the equation. We also need to train them the way they’re used (contraction types/speeds) and in the specific patterns we need them to be in volleyball (joint/angle specific). Not only that, we also need to understand the specific demands volleyball has on the body as a system and individually (game play, positional demands, specific endurance etc), how to prepare for it, the necessary strength and range needed and so much more to be good at the tasks. In this program, we:

  • Understand the exercise and sport science and design progressive phases to improve the athlete

  • Help you learn the spiking sequence and spike approach sequence

  • Have skill drills to work on timing, accuracy and combining the approach with spiking

  • Develop strength, reactive ability, mobility and more for volleyball

  • Train specifically to improve the qualities needed for volleyball tasks

This is how we train. This is truly understanding the sport and the science and applying the training methods to excel in the sport. This is considering everything needed to play volleyball to be the best we can be, physically, technically and tactically. We do learn from other sports and methods, and those are all great. But overall, training needs to get you better at your sport. While our training can help you become a better overall athlete, it may not make sense in the lens of other sports. That’s because this is training specifc to volleyball, not weightlifting, not bodybuilding, not track, not football. Volleyball. This is training to become Built For Volleyball.

get stronger and more skilled

It’s not enough to do strength training or skills training alone. Making any changes to technique without assessing and improving strength levels can lead to injuries down the road if the athlete isn’t prepared to accept explosive loads those positions.

Even with bodyweight exercises, we can start building a foundational level of strength to handle the forces as we gradually improve technique and explosiveness. This is what we aim to accomplish in this program for improving your vertical jump and spiking power using progressive phases over the course of 12 weeks of training.

In this guide, we learn the skills needed for mastery in anything.

Having experience as a student-athlete, I understand the struggles and importance of improving and maintaining good habits.
When we focus on improving these areas of our life, it seeps into other areas like volleyball.

TESTIMONIALS

What others have said about our training.

faq

  • Abolsutely! I teach you what I call the “Spiking Sequence” going in depth on how to do it well and apply it in the training program. We have drills in here that work on the Spiking Sequence, accuracy, timing and more!

  • Nope! This is great for beginners, younger athletes or advanced athletes that don’t have access to a gym. I have progressions for a lot of the exercises to appropriately match the level of the athlete and get them gains. Highschoolers to professional levels can benefit from the training in here!

  • We do a lot of skill work on the court to apply our spike approach and spiking sequence over the net. While it is recommended to have a net, it’s not necessary. You won’t be able to do some of the drills that are hitting over a net, but we offer alternative drills to help improve your timing and coordination for your spike and approach! Even if you don’t have a ball, you can still benefit from the drills in here.

  • At the basic level you don’t need any equipment, just a safe space to move/jump/run. Recommended is a volleyball and net, space to run, a partner for some of the drills, and a box/step. Again, if you don’t it’s okay. I do give alternatives to a lot of the exercises.

  • It’s ideal to have a setter or someone to toss you sets for most of the hitting drills in the later phases of the off/no season. If you dont, you can always spike off your toss! Other we have some stability drills and agility drills that are ideal with a partner.

  • Nope! Once you sign up, you have it for life. You can repeat the program, progress through the exercises as you wish AND always get the most up to date program if I make any changes down the road.

  • It is advised that all athletes/clients consult with their physician or physical therapist for guidance on medically related inquiries. Athletes must be cleared for high-intensity Plyometrics & Resistance Training and overhead explosive movements (ie. spiking) prior to beginning any online training.
